01 / Choose the right tool

CAB Sounds Instrument is the playable synth: choose a preset and send it MIDI. ANUX turns an imported or captured sample into a playable instrument and includes the source-audio editor. CAB Sounds is the audio effect: insert it on a track that already carries audio.

The software suite contains all three products. AFTERDARK 2000 and CAB 500 are separate sound libraries, not included in this three-software package unless your order explicitly includes them.

These packages are beta distribution candidates. The Mac Audio Units passed Apple validation and automated tests passed. Windows builds passed cross-build and file checks, but native Windows/FL Studio playback, capture and installer transactions still need testing. Mac binaries are ad-hoc signed, not notarized; Windows binaries and installer scripts are unsigned. No AAX/Pro Tools plug-in is included.

1. Back up your projects and close all DAWs and CAB apps before installing.
2. Use the Mac package on Mac or the Windows x64 package on PC. Extract the entire ZIP first.
3. Keep your personal activation code private. The general download intentionally contains no activation code.

02 / Install on Mac

The universal Mac package includes Apple silicon and Intel apps, AU and VST3. The build targets macOS 11 or later; a build target is not a promise that every OS/host combination has been tested.

1. Read START-HERE.txt, then double-click Install CAB Suite.command in the extracted package. Review its prompt and press Return to continue.
2. The installer checks the files and preserves replaced versions for recovery. It installs apps in your user Applications folder, Audio Units in your user Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components, and VST3 bundles in /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST3.
3. If the system VST3 folder is not writable, the installer stops before copying. Ask your Mac administrator to install the three VST3 bundles in that folder. For a manual install, preserve old copies first and copy the three apps and Audio Units to the user folders above.
4. Restart your DAW. Open the newly installed apps from your user Applications folder, not an old download.

03 / Install on Windows for FL Studio

Use 64-bit Windows. The build targets Windows 10 version 1607 or later, including Windows 11. Keep the complete .vst3 folders intact; the EXE files are standalone apps, not plug-ins.

1. Extract the whole Windows ZIP and close FL Studio and all CAB apps.
2. Run INSTALL VST3 FOR ALL USERS.cmd. Approve the genuine Windows administrator prompt, review the destinations and type INSTALL. The normal destination is C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3.
3. Run INSTALL FOR CURRENT USER.cmd normally, not as administrator. Choose 2 for standalone apps only, then review the destinations and type INSTALL. Your personal license is activated inside a CAB app.
4. In FL Studio, open Options > File settings > Manage plugins. Enable Verify plugins and choose Find installed plugins. For updates, also rescan previously verified plug-ins. Menu wording can vary by version.
5. Add ANUX or CAB Sounds Instrument as an instrument/generator channel. Put CAB Sounds in an FX slot on the Mixer track carrying your audio.

04 / Activate your personal license

Activation is offline. A COMPLETE entitlement unlocks all three software products. An older Suite entitlement unlocks FX and Instrument, not ANUX; product-specific codes only unlock their named product. A Gumroad receipt or a generic Gumroad license key is not automatically a CAB activation code.

1. Open the license text supplied privately to you by CAB. Copy the entire single line beginning CAB1., without extra words or spaces.
2. ANUX: open PRESETS / LICENSE, paste into the license field and press ACTIVATE.
3. CAB Sounds Instrument: paste into the license field and press ACTIVATE. CAB Sounds FX: open ACTIVATE, paste into its dialog and confirm.
4. Reopen other CAB apps or restart the DAW so existing instances reload the license. Check for LICENSED before troubleshooting audio.

05 / Your first Logic session

1. Create a Software Instrument track. In its Instrument slot choose AU Instruments > Carl Bii Records LLC > ANUX or CAB Sounds Instrument, then Stereo where offered.
2. For CAB Sounds FX, use an Audio FX slot on the audio or instrument track you want to process.
3. If a product is missing, open Logic Pro > Settings > Plug-in Manager, locate the CAB product and use Reset & Rescan Selection. Restart Logic after a successful scan. Do not force-load a plug-in that failed validation.
4. Select the instrument track and send MIDI from a keyboard or a Piano Roll region. ANUX also needs a source audio file loaded. Begin at a low monitoring volume.

06 / Import or record into ANUX

Drop a WAV, AIFF or FLAC onto DROP A SAMPLE HERE / BROWSE, or click it to choose a file. Imports and captures are limited to 120 seconds. Longer audio must be edited into shorter files first. Loading or recording a source does not automatically play it.

1. Standalone: select an available audio input, then press CAPTURE. Allow microphone/input permission when your OS requests it. Play the source into your interface and press STOP CAPTURE to load the take.
2. In a plug-in: route audio from the DAW into ANUX’s optional Capture Input/sidechain. In Logic, select the source in the plug-in header’s Side Chain menu if available. Press CAPTURE, play the source, then STOP CAPTURE.
3. If the take is silent, first confirm the source track/bus is sending audio and that the host exposes the input. Import a known WAV to test the sampler independently of recording.

07 / Edit the source audio

Press EDIT AUDIO beside the sample loader. This edits the imported or captured source, not a multitrack session. Changes create new WAV files and preserve the original.

1. Drag over the waveform to select audio. Refine either handle or type exact START / END times in seconds. SELECT ALL or a double-click selects the whole source.
2. Use + / − or the wheel to zoom, PAN or Shift+wheel to move, and FIT to see the whole source.
3. AUDITION plays the selection dry once at a reduced level, with short boundary fades. STOP ends it; Space toggles audition. The DAW must be processing for plug-in audition to be heard.
4. TRIM keeps the selection. DELETE removes it. At least 128 audio frames must remain. REVERSE, FADE IN, FADE OUT and NORMALIZE affect the selected region.
5. UNDO / REDO keep up to 24 edits in the current instance. RESET ORIGINAL returns to the original import or recording—even after the project reopens, if that file remains available.
6. SAVE WAV writes a separate 24-bit copy of the edited source. Existing files are not overwritten. CLOSE or BACK TO TV returns to the main interface.

08 / Play accurately from your keyboard

SOURCE ROOT means the note already present in the recording—not the key you want your song to be in. Root selection is manual, not automatic pitch detection. Use a stable pitched sound when you want predictable tuning.

1. Open EDIT AUDIO and set SOURCE ROOT to the original note. ANUX labels C4 as MIDI 60; compare MIDI numbers if your DAW uses a different octave name.
2. Choose CHROMATIC, turn KEY LOCK off, and set the Pitch transpose control in the Pitch drawer to 0.
3. Play the root note: it uses the original pitch. One key higher is one semitone higher. An octave higher doubles playback pitch. Chromatic mode uses the full edited source, not just its first slice.
4. For scale-constrained playing, turn Key Lock on and choose Target Key and Scale in the Pitch drawer. For detected chops, choose SLICE BANK. CUSTOM MAP uses your assigned slice/note mappings.

09 / Shape, sequence and export

1. Browse ANUX’s 300 presets and 25 engines. Use SOURCE, PITCH, BODY, MOTION, SPACE and FINISH for detailed controls, or the four sound macros for broad changes.
2. Try a description such as “dark floating pad, wide, soft highs, F# minor,” then TRANSFORM. Compare the three variations. This is local rule-based processing of supported terms, not an online generative AI service.
3. Use the main PLAY button to audition the processed pattern. STOP ends it and restores the previous preview mode/tempo. This differs from EDIT AUDIO > AUDITION, which plays dry source audio.
4. Choose HOST for session tempo or LOCAL for your own BPM. Start DAW transport so the host supplies its timing. Use Pattern mode for sequencing and Chromatic mode for direct keyboard playing.
5. Use EXPORT 24-BIT WAV or the prepared drag-output area to render the processed pattern into your project. SAVE WAV inside the editor exports the source instead. To capture your own keyboard performance, record MIDI in the DAW and bounce that track; ANUX’s CAPTURE records incoming source audio, not its own processed output.

10 / Instrument and FX essentials

CAB Sounds Instrument: choose from 1,000 presets, play MIDI, then use Brightness, Character, Space and Motion. LAYERS adjusts two sound layers; SMART PLAY controls key/scale, chord and tempo behavior; SPACE FX controls spatial effects. For unchanged incoming MIDI, turn its Note Guide off. ANUX’s new SOURCE ROOT editor is not a claim that every product has the same controls.

CAB Sounds FX: insert it on an audio-carrying track, start with modest drive and blend, then explore the distortion and sample-chopping controls. The four-band EQ and stereo-linked compressor can work without the rest of the mutation chain. Match output level when comparing bypassed and processed audio.

11 / Save your work and solve common problems

ANUX retains captures and edits in its application-data folder under Carl Bii Records LLC / ANUX / Captures and Edits. On Mac this is inside your user Library/Application Support. Back up these files; the application does not automatically purge them.

1. No sound: confirm LICENSED, check the DAW/interface output, select the correct MIDI track, and load a sample in ANUX. CAB Sounds FX needs incoming audio. Stop any accidental preview or held MIDI notes.
2. Wrong pitch: check the source’s real note, SOURCE ROOT, Chromatic mode, Key Lock, Pitch transpose and any custom mapping offsets. Compare MIDI numbers, not only octave names.
3. Old interface: close apps/hosts, reopen the installed copy and rescan. Keep old ROSES/ANUX duplicates outside scan locations. Never delete your projects or license to refresh the plug-in.
4. Missing sample after moving a project: relink the original or edited file. ANUX references paths; it does not embed audio in DAW sessions. Keep both original and edited WAVs with your backup.
5. Installer integrity error: stop and download/extract a complete fresh copy. Do not edit the hash manifest or bypass its check.
6. Persistent problems: contact CAB privately with the product/version, OS/DAW versions, exact error and steps to reproduce. Exclude activation codes from screenshots.
